When it comes to automotive electrical problems, some faults are straightforward. Others? Not so much.
Recently, a classic Trans Am came into Albert’s Auto Electrical with a frustrating and hard-to-trace issue — a short in the tail light circuit. Electrical shorts can be notoriously difficult to pinpoint, especially when the problem isn’t immediately visible.
Step 1: Careful Inspection & Initial Repair
Our team began with a thorough inspection of the wiring harness. After methodically tracing the circuit, we discovered damage hidden behind the dashboard. The affected section was repaired, and the issue appeared to be resolved.
With everything reassembled, the Trans Am was ready to go — or so it seemed.
Step 2: When the Fault Returned
Shortly after reassembly, the short circuit returned. This is where experience and attention to detail really matter.
Rather than assuming the previous repair had failed, we went back to diagnostics. Electrical issues can sometimes have more than one failure point, and overlooking even the smallest detail can mean the problem persists.
Step 3: Digging Deeper
Further testing led us to the engine bay, where we discovered a small exposed connection that had been causing intermittent contact. It was subtle — easy to miss without careful inspection — but it was enough to bring the fault back.
Once properly repaired and secured, the tail light circuit operated exactly as it should.
No Shortcuts. Just Proper Diagnostics.
At Albert’s Auto Electrical, we believe in doing the job right the first time — even if it means taking extra time to chase down a stubborn issue.
